The local SEO checklist we run before touching a single ranking

Twenty-two checks that decide whether a local business can realistically compete in the map pack — and what to fix first.

Local search rewards businesses that are easy for both people and machines to verify. Before we optimise anything, we confirm the fundamentals: is the business entity consistent everywhere it appears, does the primary category match the money-making service, and is the physical address genuinely eligible for the service areas being targeted?

The single biggest wasted effort in local SEO is publishing dozens of city pages before the profile foundations are correct. Proximity is weighted heavily, and no amount of content overcomes an incorrect category or an unverified location.

Start with category and attribute accuracy, then citation consistency, then review velocity, and only then invest in localised content. Sequencing matters more than volume — teams that follow this order routinely see map pack movement inside eight weeks.

Finally, measure with a geo-grid rather than a single rank check. Your visibility is a map, not a number, and the gaps in that map tell you exactly where to focus next quarter's effort.
